The first-generation Mazda Capella was launched in 1970, Mazda’s 50th anniversary year. Intended as a new key passenger car that fills in a gap between the Mazda Familia and the Luce in Mazda’s passenger car portfolio, the first-generation Capella was developed in two body styles – the four-door sedan and two-door coupe. Customers were given two engine options: the newly developed 12A-type rotary engine and 1.6-liter reciprocal engine.
The "Wind Capella", the rightful nickname due to its aerodynamic, wavy body line with powerful and seamless driving on the road, was voted the Best Import Car in 1972 by American car magazine.

Whenever I drive from Hiroshima to Okayama to visit my grandparents, the R360 Coupe had always been my partner on the road.
For a long time, my dream was to buy and drive the Porter Van. Meeting with other fans and owners to celebrate the 50th anniversary is a wonderful memory that I will never forget.
Since I discovered the CX-8, I began to deeply appreciate Mazda’s manufacturing philosophy.
