Developed as Mazda’s "Multi-purpose Vehicle”, the first-generation Mazda MPV stood exactly for what it was. It was a totally new minivan back then with an ability to seat many passengers with ease of ingress/egress secured by lowering the vehicle height. Inside the car, Mazda created a space for passengers seated in the first to the third row to freely walk in-between the seats. Powered by 3-liter V6 engine, the Mazda MPV was also known to deliver confidence-boosting driving and became a sales success in the North American market where the vehicle was launched in 1988 ahead of its home market. The Mazda MPV sales started in January 1990 in Japan to commemorate Mazda’s 70th anniversary.

Whenever I drive from Hiroshima to Okayama to visit my grandparents, the R360 Coupe had always been my partner on the road.

For a long time, my dream was to buy and drive the Porter Van. Meeting with other fans and owners to celebrate the 50th anniversary is a wonderful memory that I will never forget.

Since I discovered the CX-8, I began to deeply appreciate Mazda’s manufacturing philosophy.
