Mazda innovated the second-generation MPV with ideas for sports car. Lowered floor and long wheelbase secured comfortable interior space for the third-generation MPV. The car also received exceptional dynamics and maneuverability for a minivan. The 2.3-liter direct injection turbo engine with excellent environmental performance made a huge contribution to the innovation; the engine generated big torque from low revolution to deliver responsive acceleration with many passengers seated in the car. The engine was combined with superb handling thanks to four wheel independent suspension and outstanding braking performance achieved by use of large discs. The outcome was "sheer joy of driving" that changed typical perceptions of minivan.

Whenever I drive from Hiroshima to Okayama to visit my grandparents, the R360 Coupe had always been my partner on the road.

For a long time, my dream was to buy and drive the Porter Van. Meeting with other fans and owners to celebrate the 50th anniversary is a wonderful memory that I will never forget.

Since I discovered the CX-8, I began to deeply appreciate Mazda’s manufacturing philosophy.
