MAZDA

MAZDA 100TH ANNIVERSARY

100 Years Timeline
Chapter 10
Going into a period of major transformation,
aiming to exist in harmony with the earth, society and people
As the automobile industry experiences the kind of transformation that takes place only once in 100 years, in 2017 Mazda announced business and capital alliance with Toyota. The two companies established a new company for production in the U.S. and also began collaborating for the joint technology development of EV and connectivity technology. During the same period, Mazda announced its long-term vision for technology development, “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030,” which laid out the company’s initiatives for substantially reducing CO2 emissions on a well-to-wheel basis (including energy production) and its multi-solution approach to suit each region by offering both internal combustion engines and electrification technologies. In line with these plans, in 2019 vehicles equipped with the world’s first compression ignition gasoline engine, Skyactiv-X, went on sale, and Mazda announced its first mass production EV, the MX-30. In terms of Kodo design, the company developed the Vision Coupe concept car, which removes extraneous elements to express vitality through a “less is more” aesthetic, and in 2019 the refined Kodo design was incorporated in the new product lineup, starting with the Mazda3.
